Secure the iron rod in front of a uniform background and focus the IR camera for a clear image.  DO NOT touch the rod in the viewing area of the camera as the camera will very clearly show where you touched it.  Bend the rod back and forth many times.  You will see the rod start to heat at the top nearest the bend. The heat will travel downward through the rod as you continue to bend it back and forth.
