3A70.45 - Coupled Resonance - Springs

Code Number:
3A70.45
Demo Title:
Coupled Resonance - Springs
Condition:
Excellent
Principle:
Coupled Resonance
Area of Study:
Oscillations
Equipment:
Two set of springs with different sizes and spring constants, 500 and 1000 g masses, crossbar with hooks.
Procedure:

Place the springs on the hooks of the crossbar.  Hang 1000 gram masses from the large springs and 500 gram masses to the smaller springs.  Start one of the masses oscillating and eventually enough energy will transfer to the other identical system.  Only the systems that are identical will show any appreciable resonance.
