Spouting Bowl
Forced Vibrations, Nodes and Antinodes

Spouting Bowl, Damp Towel, and Styrofoam Cup.

Fill the bowl with water up to the line and then set it onto a sheet of non-slip mat. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and without drying start rubbing your palms on the handles. This should build a resonant vibration in the bowl, as shown by the water that "dances" out of the bowl much like a fountain.

A Styrofoam cup is filled with water. Vibrations can be set up by sliding the cup across the lecture bench at the proper speed.
