Stepping on the bristles of a broom

Code Number: 1F20.35

Demo Title: Egg and Pizza Pan

Condition: Good

Principle: Inertia of Mass

Area of Study: Mechanics

Equipment:

Plastic containers (3), plastic cylinders, wooden eggs ( or real eggs if you feel lucky), broom, water, 1 foot square Plexiglas sheet.

Procedure:

Fill each of three beakers with 600 ml of water.  Place them near the edge of the table.  Put the square plate on top of them so that about 1 inch of the plate extends over the edge of the table.  Place the clear plastic tubes on top of the plate and over the center of each beaker, and then place an egg sideways on top of each tube.  Step on the bristles of the broom and pull the handle back sighting on the center of the square plate.  When you let go of the handle, it should strike the plate, knocking it and the tubes out from under the eggs.  When properly done, each egg should fall into its own beaker.
