Demo Title: Mechanical Equivalent of Heat - Bend a Wire

Condition: Excellent

Principle: Heat a Wire by Bending

Area of Study: Thermodynamics

Equipment:

IR Camera, Wire, Support Rod and Clamp, Background screen.

Procedure:

Place the wire into the clamp on the support rod and make sure it is secure.  Place the background screen right behind the wire so that the only things visible to the camera is the wire in front of the background.  Show the IR camera view to the class before the demo and then start bending the wire back and forth.  The temperature of the wire in the region of most stress will increase as clearly shown with the camera.  DO NOT touch the wire in any part of the area that is in the view of the camera as where you touched will clearly be seen with the camera.
