Code Number: 5G30.55
Demo Title: Diamagnetic Bismuth
Condition: Excellent
Principle: Magnetic Orientations
Area of Study: Electricity & Magnetism
Equipment:
Diamagnetic Levitation Apparatus.
Procedure:
Diamagnetic levitation between two graphite plates can be shown with the levitation apparatus. Adjust the magnets at the top until the magnet floats between the two graphite plates.
The homemade device is similar to the commercial device except that diamagnetic bismuth metal is used instead of the graphite plates. It is easier to get the magnets adjusted so that they float between the plates.
