Code Number: 5H30.45
Demo Title: Ring Plasma
Condition: Excellent
Principle: Plasma in a Magnetic Field
Area of Study: Electricity & Magnetism
Equipment:
Ring Plasma Driving Circuit, Plasma Globe and Stand, Fun Fly Stick, 2 Power Supplies.
Procedure:
Start-up Procedure is as follows:
- Turn on the +12 VDC power supply and make sure the fan is running. (this starts the MOSFET Driver and the Fan).
- Turn on the MOSFET Voltage Supply. (This should be turned to Zero Volts before turning the power supply on).
- Adjust the MOSFET Voltage to +24 VDC
- Use the Fun Fly Stick to trigger the globe.
- at 24 to 28 or 30 VDC, touching the globe will cause the discharge to change from string of pearls to ring discharge. (Note that when the ring discharge appears the power supply voltage will drop to 16 to 18 volts.
- Reducing the voltage to ~17 VDC or less will cause the string of pearls discharge to reappear.
DO NOT go over +35 VDC on the MOSFET supply.
SHUT-DOWN Procedure:
1. Reduce the MOSFET supply (+24 VDC) to zero volts.
2. Turn off the +12 VDC supply.
