6A44.40b - Fiber Optics - Multiplexing
Code Number: 6A44.40b
Demo Title: Fiber Optics - Multiplexing
Condition: Excellent
Principle: Multiplexing
Area of Study: Optics
Equipment:
Plexiglas Y-Rod, 2 signal end adapter for Y-Rod, 2 Optical Transmitters - one with a red LED and one with a green LED, red and green filters, Solar cell and Amplifier unit.
Procedure:
Place the signal adapter on the end of the Y-rod. Turn on the optical transmitter with the red LED and insert the LED into one of the holes on the adapter. Turn on the optical transmitter with the green LED and insert the LED into the other hole of the adapter. Each of these transmitters will be playing a different song, and if you look carefully, you will see that the red light and the green light are mixing in the Y-rod to give a yellowish color. Set the solar cell and amplifier units at the Y exits of the rod. You can listen to the mixed signal coming to the amplifier unit, but by using the red and green filters you can isolate each of the individual signals.
