Demo Title: Crystal Structure using Electron Diffraction

Equipment:
5 kV Power Supply, Electron Diffraction Tube (Tel-Atomic), Tube Stand, Camera and Power Supply.
Procedure:
Set the unit up as shown and according to the circuit diagram. Turn on the power supply and allow a short time for the filament to warm up. Push up the slide switch and observe the diffraction rings form. Aim the camera at the screen on the end of the tube. See the information in the files about tube parameters and target makeup. (Carbonized Graphite on Ni.)
When using the larger Sargent-Welch unit do not look at the screen for extended lengths of time as there is the possibility of X-rays coming from the tube. Instead, mount a video camera in front of the screen when using in class.
