Von Weise Motor with 10" plate and attached pin, Spring, 3 kg mass on holder

Code Number: 3A40.10

Demo Title: SHM and Rotational Motion - Spring and Mass

Condition: Good

Principle: Comparison of SHM and Rotational Motion

Area of Study: Oscillations & Acoustics

Equipment:

Von Weise Motor with 10" plate and attached pin, Spring, 3 kg mass on holder.

Procedure:

Place the masses on the spring.  Set the motor in place so that the center of the plate is in line with the bottom of the masses.  Turn the power supply up to that the motor and plate turn at the same rate as the spring motion.  Practice will be needed to start the spring in phase with the rotating plate.  The pinpoint light source is used to create a shadow graph of this on the screen in the lecture room.
