Code Number: 1Q20.46

Demo Title: Moments of Inertia - Energy of Translation

Condition: Good

Principle: Moment of Inertia

Area of Study: Mechanics

Equipment:

Inclined Plane with Rails and Rolling Cylinders - One with Ball Bearing Wheels.

Procedure:

Lay both cylinders on their sides and roll down the ramp. Identical behavior should be observed. Then set the one up on  the ball bearing wheels and again roll them side by side. The one with the wheels should win by a large margin. The distance that the wheeled one wins by should be a direct measurement of the energy that was translated into rolling by the other cylinder.
